We want to approve another Social Media News Challenge project or two for the spring semester.

If you’re a Manship School student, you can receive a grant for $4,000 (plus up to $1,000 in expenses) for running a social media project. (Teams of students collaborating on a project would split the grant.)

You need to submit your idea on this blog by Friday, Jan. 23.8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26. Note: I extended the deadline through the weekend because I was not available Wednesday to meet with students.  Come discuss your idea with Steve Buttry (email stevebuttry@lsu.edu to make an appointment) and I’ll give you access to the blog for your application. You can choose a project that will run and wrap up in the spring semester, or that will continue into the fall.

Study the projects approved last fall and the Knight grant guidelines and consider what you might want to experiment with that will use social media to engage communities around news.

We will discuss your application with you the week of Jan. 26 and hope to approve at least one or two more projects to launch for the spring semester.
