Congratulations to Andrew Abad and Robyn Stiles, the first Manship students approved for a project in the Social Media News Challenge. This proposal to promote and study a #TigersVote hashtag to encourage student voting in the U.S. Senate race was approved Wednesday by Manship School Dean Jerry Ceppos.
Because the project deals with the election, Ceppos approved the project early so the students could start their work right away. Most applications for grants under the Social Media News Challenge will be considered Thursday, Oct. 23, when students will pitch their ideas to Ceppos and a panel of reviewers at the Manship School’s Holliday Forum.
The Social Media News Challenge is funded by a $150,000 grant to the Manship School of Mass Communication by the Knight Foundation.
When first announced, the project was going to use a different hashtag, but changed to #TigersVote to avoid encouraging campaigns to use a hashtag with “LSU” in it.
